A July Saturday in Paducah

This day started out like any Saturday... have some breakfast and head to Farmer's Market to get some fresh veggies. We hadn't driven out of Reidland yet when we came upon a Mama wild turkey taking her young one for a walk... across the busy highway. We stopped and let them cross. And, where was my camera when I needed it!

Then it was off to Farmer's Market to get some sweet corn and tomatoes. Stopped by the National Quilt Museum (which is right across the street from the market) to pick up the silver necklace that I saw in their newsletter. It is a heart that says Quilts inside the heart - one is now in my jewelry box. And I also picked up some of the museum's collection of dogwood fabric made by Moda. They told me that the supply is getting limited, so if you want some, contact the museum. They had 5" squares, jelly rolls, layer cakes (10" squares - that's what I bought), and some fat quarters and other cuts.

After a bacon and tomato sandwich for lunch - yum - it started to rain. I love to sit on our back porch when it rains. This photo shows how hard it rained.

Our backyard has lots of bushes blooming now. Here is how the pink crepe myrtle looks in the rain. We also have a dark rose colored crepe myrtle, and the Rose of Sharon buses are blooming too - they are a purple-ish pink.

My next bit of entertainment on the porch was watching the hummingbirds. We haven't had but about 4 hummingbirds up to now... but they were fighting in masses over the feeders today. Here are two of them going beak-to-beak over this feeder.

And now, I'm going to go Zentangle. If you don't know what that is, stay tuned. I'm heading to a seminar for teacher certification in Zentangle this fall. I see lots of applications for it in designing quilting patterns.

Have a great weekend!

Bonnie at Whitehaven

What does a show director do on the day after the quilt show? She (and her husband Wayne) sleep in a bit longer than normal, go out to breakfast (where they see several vendors who are getting ready to head home), drive the Dogwood Trail to take photos of dogwoods to use in next year's quilt show brochures, and then comes home to put her feet up (oh, my, do they hurt!).

This photo was taken on the back porch at Whitehaven, the antebellum mansion used as a Rest Area along Interstate 24. The grounds are covered with beautiful blooming trees.

The dogwoods were so late in blooming that I didn't get to take many photos before the show. They are still blooming beautifully so we'll have plenty of new photos to choose from for next year's printed materials.

Spring has Sprung in Paducah!

The gazebo is a favorite gathering spot in downtown Paducah. It is located at the corner of Broadway and Second Streets. Wayne and I stopped to take some photos of the pretty flowering trees that surround the gazebo.

Here I am and you'll notice that I've dug out my Birkenstocks already - but it's a bit too cool yet to go barefooted in them. My Birks are what save my feet during the quilt show -- I have several pairs so I can wear different ones every day.

The dogwoods haven't started blooming yet. We hope the cool weather will keep them from blooming a while longer so the dogwood trees can put on their show for the quilters during the quilt show, April 23 - 26.

Ta Dah! My Finished Batik!

Now I could tell you that those white dots were planned...but my parents taught me to never tell a lie.
It will be fun to embellish this piece and make is a nice souvenir of our trip to the Batik Studio.

Bonnie Trying Her Hand at Batiking

Here I am spreading wax on my floral design. This was definitely harder than it looks. The artists in the studio made it look so easy -- NOT.

Kaye England, Jim West, Bonnie Browning on the Elephant Safari

Kaye England, Jim West, and Bonnie Browning sharing the spotlight with two of our elephants.

This is Wayne and me after the elephant dropped the ring of flowers over our heads. This elephant also played the harmonica...and he played it better than I could.

This was definitely a fun day!
